Known worldwide as the most adorable and relaxed of all cat breeds, Ragdoll kittens are the perfect addition to your family. Created in the 1960s by American breeder, Anne Baker, from her own pet cat Josephine the resulting breed all stem from three of her children. The fathers of these kittens were unknown but are of Birman origin. Her son Daddy Warbucks breed with his half sisters Buckwheat and Fugianna to create the breed we know today. Early on in their creation the breed was taken to the England where it soon became a great hit amongst cat lovers.

The appearance of Ragdoll cats adds to their popularity, their brilliant blue eyes melt the hearts of many owners while their comical fluffy trousers spread down their legs to just above their ankles. The semi long fur is not a problem, brushing once a week is normally enough to keep the coat in good condition and matting is not normally an issue.

The temperament of Ragdoll cats is their best feature. Extremely docile Ragdoll cats have tendencies to become floppy when picked up. Very easy going and laid back, ragdoll cats make the perfect companion for families. These friendly cats are perfectly comfortable around strangers and seem relaxed in nearly every situation.

The Ragdoll is a large and sturdy breed. Females can weigh up to 6.8 kilograms (15 pounds) with makes being able to top the scales at an enormous 9.1 kilograms (20 pounds). Their large size adds to their cuddly appeal making them very desirable as a house cat.

All Ragdoll kittens are born pure white, it is not until the kittens is around 8 to 10 weeks of age that their colouring becomes obvious. This late marking is beneficial for the sale process of the kittens as it is not until 10 weeks that this breed should be separated from their mother to go to their new home.

There are six colours accepted for show, starting with the traditional seal point which stems from their Burmese origins, chocolate, flame, blue, lilac and cream are all acceptable. Tortoiseshell patterns are also very common and accepted in all colours. There are also three other patterns acceptable for showing, mitted, pointed and bi colour.

Ragdolls are a relatively healthy breed, their size can lead to Big Cat Syndrome but if you buy from a reputable breeder that test the parents this should not be problem. The large size of the queens means litters are usually delivered easily with the average size being between 4 to 6 kittens.
